Buyer’s Guide: New Fonts Page

Looking for new fonts? If you follow the FonShop blog, then you may have noticed that we mention new fonts every Tuesday. And since our team loves to create lists, we made the ultimate list of just new fonts. Bookmark the New Fonts page and keep updated on latest fonts that FontShop carries.

Finding Fonts that Speak Your Language

Typefaces don’t all talk the same. We’ve heard from you that more information about what languages individual fonts support can make a big difference in choosing which packages would best fit with the projects you’re working on.

We’re excited to announce we’ve launched a solution, it’s still beta, but you can see some new features in a few places.

Language tabs

Visit the product pages (e.g. Paratype’s Orbi Sans Multilingual) and there’s now a new tab which lists which languages are supported.  If you’re working with multiple or less commonly supported languages, you can make sure the single font you chose speaks the right one before you buy.

Sub-category pages

Pick a category (such as serif) and then filter the results based on language. This will return only those fonts that support the languages you’re seeking.

Bestsellers page

We’ve added an extra filter so you can now return just those results with that languages you use.

As always, if you have any suggestions on what changes to the site you’d like to see, we’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

Random Improvements

Browsing random typefaces just got a lot more fun and easy thanks to our Randomizer tool on FontShop.com. We’ve just launched a revised version of our Random Font Generator. It’s part of our ongoing effort to evolve past old ideas and offer new ways of interacting with our website.

This new version is the fastest and simplest way to discover new fonts on FontShop.com.

In addition to a more comprehensive sample of the randomly selected typeface, from our collection of over 150,000, some of the new features are:

  • Simple bookmarking of new fonts as favorites as you browse via the star icon. You can sort the results out later once you’re dizzy with font overload!
  • The Purchase Options tab is only one click away from the sample tab. When you come across the typeface that makes you scream “I MUST HAVE THIS NOW!”, it’s easy to snag.
  • Intuitive navigation via on-screen clicking, arrow keys or swipe gestures. The support of mobile devices, like iPad, is one of our major focuses for the future.
We hope you like these new features. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Capture Fonts in the Wild for the FontShop Gallery

We can all agree – there’s a lot of Internet out there. Just a short time browsing, and your eyes will take in many examples of the thousands of fonts at FontShop.com alive on sites.

We know webfonts only represent a small segment of typography on the web. There are images of digital type samples, rendered type, and of course photos of fonts out there in the real world. We do what we can to spot these and put them up in the FontShop Gallery.

But did you know there’s a way for you to participate too? It’s simple. Next time you’re in the gallery page, click on “Submit images to the gallery.”

If you’re not already, you’ll be prompted to log in. Once you’re all set, you’ll see a button for our gallery bookmarklet. Just drag to your toolbar to add the bookmarklet to your browser.

Then comes the fun part! Next time you’re on a website and spot a font in the wild, click the bookmarklet. It will automatically highlight available GIFs, PNGs, or JPGs. Select the one you’d like to submit and tell us a little about why.

Images are sent to our staff for approval and we publish the best submissions daily.

Once your image has been approved and categorized, you’ll see it on our gallery page. You’ll also see it on the gallery page for the particular font you spotted, under the Gallery tab on every font page.

Have you used the bookmarklet tool? Leave your feedback in the comments!
