Pinterested: New pins this week

pinterest-newpins2152013In case you’ve been too kerned on by this week’s Typographic Turn-ons series to notice any other news, we’ve pinned some New & Noteworthy things on Pinterest for you.

We have a lot of promotions going on this month that you don’t want to miss — some are pinned for you to check out, including Laura Worthington’s Mandevilla Family and Latinotype’s Australis. If you’re still sweating for swashes at this point, though, we’ve collected our fontastic love stories in a Typographic Turn-ons pinboard to go back to time and time again.

Pinterested: Love At First Type

pinterest-loveatfirsttype

As you anticipate the beginning our Typographic Turn-ons series next week, our Love At First Type pinboard will help you get through the weekend if you’re sweating for swashes. We’ve pinned typefaces that will warm your heart and fonts that we’re smitten with here at FontShop. We’ll continue to pin more lovely fonts and maybe you might choose to buy your sweetheart a font for Valentine’s Day instead of a bouquet of roses, because, let’s be honest, desktop font licensing for one user is forever. Many years from now, your loved one will still be able to type out their love for you in Fiorentina, compared to just reminiscing about or staring longingly at a picture of a beautiful bunch of flowers you bought them once upon a time.

Pinterested: Typography 101

pinterest-typography101

We have lots of typography boards on Pinterest and it’s easy to get lost in them. But one of the most important boards is our Typography 101 pinboard — it’s a place where you’ll learn about fonts and using type! Those who are new to the world of typography, those who dabble, design students and professionals should bookmark this board; we’ll be continuing to expand this board with lots of great information from David’s Using Type series to other fun facts and important tidbits from our Buyer’s Guide series on licensing and finding fonts.

This week, we have one new Pinterest board that focuses on a FontFont. The super family of FF Clan is showcased in various uses in our In Your Face: FF Clan pinboard, from its thin weights to its ultra weights. We love FF Clan since it’s such a versatile typeface — it’s also the official typeface of TYPO!

Have you seen FF Clan in use in your city?

It’s a new year and with a new year comes new trends. As we pointed out last week, we won’t stop pinning in our Type Trends pinboard, but don’t forget to check out our other pinboards to see what’s happening out there in the type world!

Our Found Type board will show well-known (and a few not so obvious) typefaces used in different ways to help demonstrate how something as common as Didot or Avant Garde can still make a design look good. Or if you’re stuck in a creative block, how about visiting our Ideas & Inpiration pinboard? Here, you’ll find various uses of type from lettering to lasercut acrylic or wood (and other physical type) as well as fun and awesome uses of typography.

Follow us on Pinterest and have fun look at type all weekend long!

Our Best Typefaces of 2012 pinboard showcases the top 30 fonts on FontShop that made their debut last year from FF Chartwell to Quatro Sans to Romeo & Julieta. Get lost in the beautiful pastel samples of some of the best fonts from 2012 — this time, it’s ok to dwell on the past and reminisce through a yearbook-style list of typefaces that we’ll love for years to come.

Typographic Pinspiration of 2012

We started pinning back in July and have, since then, created almost 50 unique boards full of typographic eye candy. As 2012 comes to a close, here are some of our favorite pinboards:

pinterest-deliciousboards

The most delicious of them all. We have many tasty type samples up on Pinterest divided between various food-themed pinboards. Let your computer gain the holiday weight this season with more fonts!

The boards that get In Your Face. We dedicated a few boards to some of our popular FontFonts. FF Chartwell was an exciting new release for us this year, FF Mister K was one of many TDC Typeface Design Winners for 2012, and FF DIN is one of our top bestsellers. Learn more about these faces by checking out their spotlights on Pinterest!

pinterest-geekyboards2012The geeky side of FontShop. Here at FontShop, we geek out about more than just fonts. Our nerdiest pinboards reflect this best — we’ve expressed our love for videos games, the cosmos, and Middle Earth through typography. Explore the 8-bit overworlds of Mario and Zelda with pixel fonts on our Like A Boss board, relive Curiosity’s amazing landing on Mars with our Spacing Out board, and journey to the Shire with uncial fonts and beautiful photography from fStop Images on our Keep Calm & Hobbiton board.

Aside from our themed boards, don’t forget about some of our 2012 events: examine the decathlon competition and results from the Fontlympics and be thankful you’re still alive by taking a look at the fonts that were included from the Mayan Calendar Countdown. And to get you pumped up for our Best of 2012, browse through our Best Typefaces of 2011 pinboard while you wait!

Our very own FontShopper, Theresa, recently came back from a trip to the UK — along the way, she snapped some typographic memories in London and Edinburgh. We have two new boards up this week — Type Travels: Hello, London! and Type Travels: Hello, Edinburgh! — that show some of the things she spotted during her trip.

Much like our own home here in San Francisco, seeing chalkboard lettering and handmade signage is not uncommon in both London and Edinburgh. Of her journey, Theresa notes:

“In London, I saw a lot of hand-painted signs and hand-lettering for shops, markets, and the Bloomsbury Festival. And I loved walking through Edinburgh’s Old Town which is filled with engravings that have lasted for hundreds of years. I really should have allotted more time for the British Library though — that place is a goldmine. I could have spent an entire day in there just looking at their stamp collection — too bad you can’t take photos, so you’ll just have to believe me and go yourself!”

If you’ve been thinking of traveling, maybe you should check out some of Theresa’s typographic pictures on Pinterest — that may sway you to fly overseas!
