Pinterested: Helvetica Alternatives

Love it or leave it, Helvetica is a classic. This week’s Pinterest board offers some typefaces from the Grotesque genre that offer something different from Helvetica — whether it’s style, warmth, or extra features like small caps, figure alternates, and additional widths. Our Helvetica Alternatives Fontlist was curated by Stephen Coles.

I would LOVE if there was a blog post or book that would describe all of the fonts that come with a Mac OS or Windows that can be used by beginners, i.e. in pairs of fonts that come default in each OS. Or, if you DO discuss good pairing, identify which ones come with each OS.

Hi Kevin – Unfortunately we haven’t covered system fonts on the blog. However, we do have our Great Pairs feature and also a document that suggests complements for Helvetica.

Hi Molly – Well, I’ve searched high and low and if you did something like this, you’d be the first (hint, hint, might drive beginner traffic to your site :D ) compared with other font web sites. I’d sure make a blog post linked to it.
